Sumac Tincture
Sumac Tincture
(Rhus typhina)
Kidney Support*
Sumac is a plant that knows how to manage water resources well. Hiking around Rhode Island a few years back during a wicked drought, it seemed to me the forest flora was dormant, conserving energy for next season by producing smaller nut and fruit crops than usual. Meanwhile, the native staghorn sumac stands were having a bumper year! Their distinctive, fuzzy red drupes stood proud and abundant. Sumac seems to have a special affinity for the kidneys as an astringent tonic. It's no coincidence that this particular plant, so adept at containing and regulating the water element, acts as a support for the organs responsible for managing the body's waters!*
