Emily Sorlien
As a chronically ill disabled person, being in a body has felt at times unbearably hard. If you or someone you love has had or is having a similar experience, my heart goes out to you in solidarity.
You are needed in this moment.
We each possess a unique medicine for ourselves, our people, our ancestors, our community and our wider ecosystems. That could look like healing, softness, love protection, connection, boundaries, creativity, inspiration, care, courage, wisdom.
But bringing forth the fullness of that medicine, that magic, putting that vulnerable authenticity out into the world can feel frustratingly out of reach when our physical or etheric bodies are running on fumes — I know I’m not my favorite version of myself when I’m in an active pain flare.

I will never not be tending to the garden of my body. My conditions are not “curable”. There is no silver bullet for that which ails me.
Instead I get to choose everyday to be in relationship with my limitations, my fluctuating capacity, my pain, my people and the plants that bring balance and support to my experience of this life.
Medicinal plants have been crucial allies and guides in navigating my path toward wholeness. I hope my embodied knowledge and experiences can be a valuable resource for you in your journey.
My goal as an herbalist is to help you find your teachers — the members of the plant and fungi kingdoms who can remind you of your inherent power and wisdom and predisposition toward health and balance.
Our bodies evolved from and with plants. They share an ancient language.
Trees have been on this planet 10,000 times longer than humans. At a moment in history when the world feels abysmally cruel and chaotic, it’s reassuring to me to that the plant world recalls a time before kings and capitalism.
Plant medicines have the potential to remind us of the miraculous, untamed urge to reach up toward life — to behold the unruly, expansive, careening, willful, riotous thing that’s been coursing through our veins this whole time.
